The CityPaper covered the announcement of a new outdoor market for the downtown. The hours are 2:30-5:30. I guess that give people time to shop between 5:00 and 5:30 when they get off work. They seems like odd hours, but I hope it works. It is located in the plaza between the Bank of America Building and the DoubleTree Hotel between Fourth and Fifth avenues.

Attended the first outdoor market this afternoon. Arrived around 5:05 and the display was a quality mix of locally grown vegetables, some flowers (which had sold well), coffee and soaps. Purchased three kinds of tomatoes, a cucumber and received a complimentary, good quality, LP backpack for carrying your veggies back home.

A bold experiment and worthy of your support.

Every Thursday through October.

It was just one medium sized tent selling vegtables, herbs and flowers, and a table with coffee and soap. It was not a big display, but a start. I am not sure how many vendors it represented, but there were about eight people staffing the space. It had the feel of an experiment.
